Dearest Family and Friends of Akiyu,

We hope that this letter finds you well. 

Unbelievably, one year has gone by since Akiyu’s passing.  Words cannot describe the days that have passed without her physical presence, but we are grateful for all the love and support that have been offered to us during these dark days.

In honor of Akiyu’s memory, and in celebration of her 40th birthday on August 18th, we have decided to create a memorial fund to continue the educational work that she began.  Blossoming Leaves: The Akiyu Hatano Memorial Fund will support local schools and community organizations engaged in socal justice, community service, and youth leadership activities.  It will be administered by the East Bay Community Foundation.

Please take a moment to read about the memorial fund on this website.  We warmly welcome and deeply appreciate your contributions to this memorial fund.  Tax-deductible contributions can be made on this website or by sending a check made payable to "East Bay Community Foundation".

We hope that the website will continue to grow as a place to remember Akiyu, provide contact information to continue the circle of friendship that Akiyu began, and to update all of you on the progress of the memorial fund and its grant recipients.
